Stability in vitiligo helps in making decisions regarding right treatment. In an unstable vitiligo one has to focus on stabilising the vitiligo. In stable vitiligo one can go for aggressively for pigmentation either with medical or surgical management depending on the availability of cell reservoir

4 important factors for stability are
1. No new patches
2. No increase in size of existing patches
3. No white patch at the site of injury
4. No loosing of already regained pigmentation in old patch.
